While you might be tempted to have more “Netflix & chill” nights with your latest date when it’s cold outside, as the temperatures rise, so does your desire for a relationship. Well, at least your endorphins spark as the sun comes out, making you happier in general and more open to the possibility of a relationship.
“No question, the newness of spring provides an ideal context for beginning a relationship. The changing weather and sunshine energize us — especially those of us who live in cold cities where we've had to hibernate all winter,” says psychologist Dr. Karin Anderson Abrell. “We've survived winter and now it's time to have fun!”
Need more convincing on why spring is the best time to make that lady you’ve been lusting after the real thing? Here are some convincing, spring-themed arguments that may just tempt you to finally make it Facebook official:
You’re more confident.
You likely already know that confidence is a major turn-on. Many studies have found that above other qualities — looks, financial success, mutual hobbies — being around someone who is sure of themselves will pique interest in possible dates. Dr. Abrell says springtime can add a little more strength in your step, and possibly open new avenues of finding, growing and keeping love.
You’re following biology.
It’s not just a fun 60s son, but actual science, according to dating expert and matchmaker Sarah Patt. “If you’re feeling a spring fling, biology might have something to do with it,” she says. “Spring is the time of year when animals get back to the work of producing the next generation. It’s the result of biological impulses that have been followed for thousands of years.” So, your body may be craving to reproduce with someone, even if you’re not quite ready to have a fam. (Just wear protection, bro — and be like the birds-and-the-bees!)
You may want a new start.
It’s easy to be tempted to go back to your ex when it’s freezing outside and she’s only two Jacks and one drunk text away. But when the snow clouds part and you pull out shorts instead of layers of outerwear, you may feel the need to let go of the past — and start something new with someone special and, um, less complicated. “There’s something reinvigorating about the first days of spring. As the flowers start to bloom, there’s an urge to shed off the old and start something new,” Patt notes. “Spring is the perfect time for cleansing your life of bad dating habits and starting fresh again.”
You want a partner.
As much as fun as it is going stag to weddings (cue your eye roll) and grabbing outdoor drinks with the guys, warmer weather lends itself to activities that are, frankly, more fun as a couple. If you want to ride bikes in the park, go for a weekend hiking trip or head to the beach to relax for the day, what better way to pass time in the sun than with a beautiful woman? Springtime lends itself to more than just nature blooming, but love, too.
